Product Description |
| This book will bring you up to speed on all the new products and load-lightening techniques needed to make your next trail experience a great one. With detailed recommendations and a lively visual format, this book will help you re-create your wilderness system one piece at a time making it lighter, safer, and more comfortable. There's always some new gizmo or gadget on the market; and with so much gear out there, it's easy to get confused. Corbridge takes away the guesswork with gear tables in each chapter that tell you where to buy the items discussed; the tables list the specific model, manufacturer, price, weight, and website. Carol's done all the research for you over several years of trials and many miles of trails. For Corbridge light doesn't mean skimping on the fun. For a week-long journey, she carries about 30 pounds, which includes 1.8 L water, food, camera, fishing gear, swim fins... you get the idea. Once you've cut out the unnecessary weight, you can add back the toys. Extend your years on the trail. Enjoy every step, as you walk into lightness. With The Boomer's Guide to Lightweight Backpacking you'll carry less, have more fun, and go out more often. See you on the trail! |

Book does a great job of breaking down gear and options for the novice and experienced. Lots of research in one place.
Anyone wanting to carry less weight regardless of age can use this guide. |
One of the funniest hiking books in a long time

The drawings by Jayna Harrison had me laughing out loud in the post office today as I peeked at my copy - particularly of the bear bagging section.
While the book is aimed at Baby Boomers, anyone who loves hiking can use this book - be young or old - it is a great resource. The book is full of well shot full color photos showing much of what is talked about in action, being done.
Overall, I just loved the non-stuffy, easy to read style. If you have friends who are thinking they might like hiking, get them to read this book first before they go gear shopping! |

| I have always thought it would be great to go backpacking and be one with nature!! I didn't know where to begin. I went around some outdoor shops and and became one with confusion..........and then I heard about Carol Corbridge's Lightweight Backpacking - New Gear for Old People. WOW!! With this very useful guide I can figure out how to outfit myself. What I particularly enjoyed about this book was the earthly humor approach and the great illustrations by Jayna Harrison. |

| This is the ideal guide for slightly older folks who want to gear up and hit the trail. It's obvious the author knows her gear, has tried it all, and makes recommendations you can take to the bank - or the trail. Corbridge also knows backpacking - the risks, cautions, and advice are all sound. And the book is also just plain fun. I see one review that gripes about the illustrations; my goodness, how grumpy. I love Harrison's illustrations. Backpacking is - or ought to be - fun, and this book captures that spirit. The photos are smashing - I hope to one day see each one of those places! I've geared up for the season and will be using many of Corbridge's gear recommendations - the Aarn backpack, the Clark Jungle Hammock, the Ursack, etc. Now, if the winter weather would kindly yield to spring, I'm set to hit the trail for another season - this year at age 64. Kudos to the author and illustrator! |

| Very good book regarding backpacking for the aging. Excellent suggestions for gear and methodology to be safe and comfortable in nature's beauty. I will never be without my possumdown sweater or my hammock again. Highly recommended! |
